A Beginner's Guide To Automobile Insurance Policy

A legal document that specifies various elements, in relation to an automobile, is known as an automobile insurance policy. It covers who or/and what is covered to which extent in the face of certain specified risks associated with an automobile. It contains detailed terms and conditions that will be enforceable under US state laws stipulated for the same if an exigency specified in the document arises.

An automobile insurance policy is always referred by a specific number printed on it. It also covers complete requisite details of the automobile insured and its owner's complete background details under an automobile insurance policy.

Contrary to public perception, the compulsory portion of the risks covered under an automobile insurance policy, does not cover the automobile insured. It covers other people, known in insurance parlance as third parties, who may become injured or die in an accident undergone and caused by the automobile insured. The automobile insurance policy document specifies the maximum amount covered towards injury in this specific respect per such injured person. It also covers the maximum total amount that can be covered in this specific respect towards injury in an accident. It also covers the maximum total amount covered in this specific respect towards third party property damage in an accident undergone by the insured automobile. The above third property damage could occur to another automobile or to property or landscape of a third party. These three separate amounts are governed by US law applicable in a particular state. These three amounts are different in different US states. The above requisite amount that pertains to injury would be payable by the insurance company, which has drawn up the policy, to such third party or parties (or their legal heirs in case of death) in case they get injured or die in an accident to the automobile insured and it is proved that the insured vehicle was responsible for the cause of the accident. The above requisite amount that pertains to property damage would be payable by the insurance company, which has drawn up the policy, to such third party that owns the property damaged in case it is proved that the insured automobile was responsible for the damage to the property. Another compulsory portion of the risks covered in an automobile insurance policy concerns the maximum amount that would be payable by the insurance company for your or/ and your family members treatment. This exigency would be caused if the driver of an uninsured automobile rams the automobile insured in which you or/and your family members are traveling. In the resulting accident you or/and your family members suffer injuries. Such compulsory insurance in all of the above respects is termed as liability insurance. All other risks covered in an automobile insurance policy are optional for you. You need to pay a periodic premium towards all covers against the policy to the insurance company.

Having recently been involved in a road traffic accident, I finally had to read the terms of my insurance policy. I can assure you that it didn't make as much sense to me as this does. Great.
